“Good Homestay! Very nice accommodation. It has a variety of rooms so suit for everyone. And don’t worry about bathroom. :) It’s modern and clean! The family was very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a cooking class and the food was very good. They also supplied us with bikes to ride around the village”. (Stayed November 2014, traveled with friends).

“Great homestay in Mékong Delta! We have stayed in many places in Mékong Delta and Suonsia Homestay was one of the best. We spent a very good time with Sari and his welcoming family. The best way to discover the Khmer culture in Vietnam. We had good food and we enjoyed the bicycle ride in the countryside among the small villages”. (Stayed May 2016, traveled with family).

“Wonderful homestay in the Mekong Delta! The family running this homestay is so friendly and welcoming. WE wished we had more time to stay here! Great food – prepared by the family. Wonderful area for biking and Kira is an amazing guide! Felt like a trip back in time – cycling the shady pathways with a small canal on one side and homes on the other! Would definitely return to this homestay – an authentic experience in the heart of the Mekong! Hard to find, but worth it”! (Stayed November 2016, traveled as a couple).

“En pleine campagne du Vietnam! Juste une visite rapide au cours d’un voyage à Tra Vinh. La famille, khmère, est très accueillante. Leur maison est entourée de verdure et de rizières, le jardin très agréable. Le décor de la chambre est un peu simple”. (Stayed January 2017, traveled with friends).

“Heel goed! Deze homestay is mooi gelegen tussen bamboo en rijstvelden. Deze reis is dit onze zevende homestay en veruit de mooiste. De kamers zijn verassend mooi en voorzien van een eigen badkamer. Het personeel is supervriendelijk en het eten heel uitgebreid”. (Stayed December 2016, traveled with friends)

“Excellent Vietnam experience, lovely friendly hospitable hosts. We loved the rural location, a chance to really experience Vietnam. The hosts were so hospitable and could not do enough for us. The meals and specialty Vietnamese cooking was wonderful. We loved being able to use the bicycles ourselves and our day trips on the scooters guided by our hosts”. (2016 July 05 – 2016 July 09).

”The homestay itself is situated between Tra Vinh and Can Tho, just outside a town called Cau Ke. It is a beautiful area on the country side with rice paddy fields and palm trees surrounding. The family running the homestay is absolutely gorgeous, very friendly and welcoming. The food served is outstanding. On my three weeks long trip in Vietnam, the food at Suonsia was one of the best places, maybe the best (and I visited quite a few restaurants on my trip, incl HCMC, Hue and Hoi An). All ingredients are organically and locally grown in their own garden. The food has a Khmer/Cambodian twist, since the family belong to the Khmer, a minority with the roots from former Kingdom of Cambodia, when the southern parts of Vietnam belonged to the Angkor Wat empire. I can strongly recommend this homestay. Highlight on my trip, don’t miss it”. Peter Béen – Sweden.

An unforgettable experience The host family, the food, the location 10. The Suonsia Homestay was the undisputed highlight of my two-week Mekong Delta tour. Getting there was a bit of an adventure, as I thought it was located in or near Tra Vinh City: it turned out to be about 40 kilometers to the south west (75 minutes on motorbike – note that the address is 22/2 Street 2, not 222!), on the outskirts of the sleepy provincial town of Cau Ke. The location is superb, in the middle of palm-fringed paddy fields, fruit orchards and greenery dotted with small villages – truly the Mekong Delta at its finest! Accommodation is simple but modern and fully sufficient, the Khmer/Vietnamese food absolutely mouthwatering – and plentiful, enough to feed a whole family! The most memorable part however was the host family itself: incredibly warm and welcoming, they really made me feel at home straight away. They proudly showed me around their lush garden, took me on bicycle tours in the surrounding countryside, and taught me a lot about the Khmer-Vietnamese culture and way of life in the Delta. All in all, if you’re looking for a genuinely memorable experience off the beaten track, look no further!
